Sports Selection Services

For various reasons, some sports bettors rely on the services of organizations that tell them which teams to bet on. In return, bettors often pay a steep price for the information they receive.
Although many of these businesses, which are known as sports selection services, are ethical and competent, there are several that take unfair advantage of sports bettors who lack the knowledge and experience to make smart wagers.
Among the reasons why some bettors choose to use sports selection services are: the belief that they don’t have access to the information they need for intelligent betting; the notion that handicapping is too complex for them to understand or that studying and researching the chosen sport or game themselves takes too much time.
The reality, however is that the so-called “inside” information some sports selection services claim to have is readily available to the average sports bettor. Also, handicapping is not nearly as difficult as you might be led to believe. It does, however, require time and patience to learn how to do it.
For those who, because of their jobs or other considerations simply cannot spare the necessary time and have decided to use the services of a sports selection organization, here are tips to help you avoid being deceived and losing money:
- Beware of companies that cannot provide a legitimate address and telephone number. A post office box number alone is unsatisfactory.
- Ask who owns the business and if you can speak directly to them. Ask for references.
- Be cautious of pressure tactics. You should receive straight answers to your questions and be allowed to decide, in your own time, if you wish to use the service.
- Ask for written documentation to support their handicapping claims; possibly also sample predictions of a few forthcoming games, and ask what these are based on.
- Also ask about their fees: if they are flat fees or if they are based on the company’s performance. Do the fees seem reasonable?
You probably wouldn’t entrust your health or your family’s to just any doctor but would likely do some prior checking. And so if you’re determined to place your money in the hands of a handicapping expert, at least do some serious homework first.
